About Chorley Building Society.

Chorley and District Building Society is the oldest building society in Lancashire and was established in March 1859 being called The Chorley Permanent Benefit Building Society. The name was then changed to The Chorley (£60 Shares) Permanent Benefit Building Society in 1897. The name officially became The Chorley and District Building Society in 1933. They are members of the building societies association and authorised and regulated by the FSA.

Profits after tax of £573k enabled their reserves to increase from £11.38m to £11.95m, Record gross mortgage lending up 9.21% to
£30.4m (2011: £27.8m). There were 16 cases in serious arrears of 12 months or more at the year end (2011: 10 cases). At the end of the year they had record mortgage balances up 3.36% to £124.0m (2011: £119.9m).Financial Results Year Ended 07/02/2011

For the year they made a profit after tax of £647,188 (£528,129).

Mortgage Lending - The average loan to value ratio of our mortgage book is less than 38% and over 98% of our mortgage balances are secured on residential properties. Only 13 mortgage cases were in arrears of six months or more. They saw a reduction in mortgage balances of 6.09% reflecting the reduced levels of activity in the housing market. The Society has one residential case in possession. This property was surrendered by the borrower during the year and has been fully provided for.

Savings – Retail share balances increased by 2% over the year. Share balances rose by £2,968,837 from £148,587,882 to £151,556,718. Their regular Santa Saver has also appeared frequently in the financial press best buy tables during the year as has their monthly income account for the over 60’s.
