About Harpenden Building Society
The Harpenden Building Society is one of the UK’s
newest mutual building societies as it was only formed on 3rd March 1953.The
first office was opened in Station Road in May 1960, with further offices
opening in Radlett in May 1981 and Leighton Buzzard in May 1992. In September
2010 they opened a fourth branch in Wendover, and a further branch in Tring in
January 2011. They are members of the buildings society association and the FSA
Reg No is 157260.

Profit after tax £1,221,000
During the year, £41.7m was advanced to new and existing borrowers (2010: £37.9m). Total mortgage balances increased by 7.2% in the year (2010: 4.5%). At 31 December 2011, there were six mortgage accounts that were 12 months or more in arrears (2010: eight), the value of arrears was £98k (2010: £160k) and the capital balance was £1.5m (2010: £2.3m). In addition, at 31 December 2011 the Society has nil properties in possession (2010: one).
Savings balances grew by 4.3% in the year (2010: 6.5%). Financial Results Year Ended 31/12/2010
For the year the Harpenden Building Society made a
profit after tax of £1,751,000 (£1,756,000).
Mortgage Lending – Mortgage balances increased by £7.0m
(4.5%) to £161.1m.
Savings – Share and deposit balances that increased by
over £23m in 2010.
