The Monmouthshire Building Society was founded by a
group of local businessmen on Saturday, January 23rd 1869. Today they have 10
branches plus the head office and supply mortgages and savings accounts to
almost 60,000 customers. They are members of the building societies association

For the year Monmouthshire Building Society Group made
a profit after tax of £1,891,639 (£2,004,958)
Mortgage Lending - There was a small increase in gross
mortgage lending during the year to £90 million (2009: £86 million). This has
led to an overall net increase in the value of mortgage assets of £24 million
to £509 million. The average loan to value of the Society’s commercial assets
at 30 April 2010 was 44% (2009: 43%). As regards the more serious cases, there
were five loans (2009: nine loans) with repayments twelve months or more in
arrears at the year-end. The total amount outstanding on these loans amounted
to £1,066,866 (2009: £1,305,394) including arrears of £67,692 (2009: £74,376).
There were four properties in possession at the end of the year (2009: five).
Savings – Monmouthshire saw a net inflow of funds into retail shares and deposit
accounts of £33 million during the year.
