Newbury Building Society was established in 1856 being
called The Newbury Permanent Benefit Building and Investment Society. In 1932,
the Society's name was changed to Newbury Building Society. They are a mutual
meaning they are owned by the members and not shareholders and are authorised
and regulated by the FSA and members of the building societies association.

Financial Results Year Ended 31/10/2010
For the year they made a profit after tax of £3,099,000
(£1,355,000).
Mortgage Lending - Mortgage balances grew over £22m in
2010, with lending levels up almost 50% on 2009. Serious arrears case numbers
have reduced from ten to six during the year and they had only two properties
in possession compared to five a year ago. At 31 October 2010 there were six
accounts where payments were twelve months or more in arrears (2009 - ten). The
total amount of arrears outstanding on these accounts was £44,000 (2009 -
£43,000) and the aggregate capital balance was £455,000 (2009 - £456,000). In
addition, as at 31 October 2010 the Group had two properties in possession
(2009 - five). £91 million of new mortgages were completed.
Savings – Share balances and retail deposit accounts
both rose strongly during the year. The company deposit account proved very
popular with balances increasing by an average of over £1m per month. This
resulted in share balances increasing by £20 million.
